Maggie Murray Research

Spence, J., and Soloman, J. (1995) What can a woman do with a camera? 1st edn. London: Scarlet Press

Murray questions the value of an image as a document ‘Used with words, photographs can go beyond showing how things look to explaining the reasons and complexities behind them.’  (Spence and Soloman 1995: 113) Yet after discovering that her Father had had an affair, Murray could no longer view old, seemingly happy, family photographs in the same way. She no longer believed that photos always showed the truth.
